Atlanta Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen Activity Report

Happy new year everyone, I would like to start out by saying thank you to all the members of the Atlanta Chapter Tuskegee Airmen for an outstanding 2006. It is truly and honor to serve as your President This being a new year I hope we will continue to inspire and motivate our youth and encourage them to improve in their academic performances while helping them pursue opportunities for careers in aviation and aerospace industries.

The following is a summary of The Atlanta Chapter Tuskegee Airmen Inc. activities

As one of TAI’s most active Chapters, we continue to move forward with our quest to motivate and inspire our youth through various activities and programs.

This year we have established a committee to develop The Atlanta Tuskegee Airmen Museum and Learning Center. Along with Zellie Orr, Val Archer, David Kapple, Arthur Hughes and a host of other members, we have begun collecting documents and artifacts to be exhibited and archived in the proposed museum.

Atlanta Chapter member Zellie Orr is establishing a committee to rename Camp Creek Parkway to Tuskegee Airmen Parkway acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Zellie Orr received the TAI President’s award at the TAI National Convention 2006 for her outstanding research and retrieval of the “Top Gun Trophy” located at Wright Patterson AFB.

Cathy Cox Secretary of State of the State of Georgia presented The Atlanta Chapter Tuskegee Airmen with the Georgia Secretary of State Award for the thirtieth Anniversary of our organization’s charter.

Atlanta Chapter member Dr. Lisa Bratton was elected National Corresponding Secretary and member of the National Scholarship Committee.  Wilbur Mason was elected to the Eastern Region Finance Committee and Val Archer Past President of the Atlanta Chapter is appointed Eastern Region Public Relation Officer. Ted Johnson (OTA) received the Heritage award posthumously at the 2006 National Convention.

Tuskegee Airmen Hiram Little was nominated for this year’s 2006 Georgia Senior Citizen Recognition. If he is selected he will receive the Award at the State Capitol in March 2007.

Atlanta Chapter member Edgar Lewis volunteers his time to teach inner city youth the game of golf on Saturday mornings.

Donna Brockmann with her dynamic style of leadership, once again conducted an outstanding Summer ACE Camp for The Atlanta Chapter. Helping Donna was member Jesse Creech chaperoning our students on the Delta Dream Flight to the National Aerospace Museum in Washington, DC. A host of members participated in the ACE Camp programs by chaperoning, and presenting various educational presentations.

We participated in the Young Eagles program this year. We have since been invited to become regular participants in the Young Eagles Programs with Chapters around the State.

We presented the Tuskegee Airmen story to area schools, community and neighborhood events, churches and career fests with a total of 34,462 guests in attendances, this has been a great year.

Our Atlanta Chapter’s Aviation Explorer Posts has grown from eight students to thirteen. So far our activities include visits to museums, Dobbins ARB and Tuskegee University.

This has been an outstanding year for the Atlanta Chapter Tuskegee Airmen. In closing, I would like to use an anonymous quote  ‘If we are to truly invest in this generation of youth we must offer a brain to pick, an ear to listen, a model to follow and, sometimes a  push into the right direction'
